Spencer "Bootleg" Adams was born on February 23, 1947 in Scooba, MS. He was the cherished son of Jasper P. Adams and Hattie Lee Reed, who instilled in him a foundation of faith and love. On January 16, 2025 God called Spencer to his heavenly home, where he now rests in eternal peace.
Spencer attended L.J. Rowan High School in Hattiesburg, MS. in 1964. In September of 1977, he married the love of his life, Bettie L. Adams, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. Their union was blessed with seven children: Spencer Adams Jr., Brian Boose, Roderick Boose, Jasper Adams, Elizabeth Thompkins, Taraca Adams and Tonya Toney.
Spencer's journey of faith began at an early age when he accepted Christ and was baptized in Jesus' name at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in 1959 at the tender age of 12. His love and zeal for Christ were constants throughout his life, shaping his actions and the love he shared with those around him. In 1995, he became a devoted member of Calvary Southern Baptist Church under the late Pastor Jaffus L. Haley. He joyfully served on the building and grounds committee, sang in the men's choir and ushered. In 2025, through hard work and dedication, he became an honorary deacon under Pastor Ronald J. Wiston. His church family held a special place in his heart and his dedication to his faith inspired all who knew him.
Spencer was a man of many talents and passions. He loved fishing, cheering for the Green Bay Packers and was affectionately known as "The Big Griller" for his unmatched barbecue skills. His famous brisket and ribs brought joy to countless gatherings. He and his wife catered for many events throughout Las Vegas. Spencer's generosity extended beyond his culinary talents; he loved participating in community events such as the Taste of Soul.
Spencer worked with diligence and pride throughout his career, including 18 years as Chief Landscaper at Circus Circus, 15 years with the Clark County School District as a custodian where he retired in 2007. His work ethic and kindness left an impression on everyone he encountered.
Spencer leaves behind a loving legacy that will be cherished by his wife, Bettie L. Adams; his children: Spencer Adams Jr., Brian Boose, Roderick Boose, Jasper Adams, Elizabeth Thompkins, Taraca Adams, and Tonya Toney; his blended family of brothers and sisters: Zarlean McKinley, Donald Jones, Charlotte McKee, and Stanley Thomas; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jasper P. Adams and Hattie Lee Reed, his grandson Dre'von Dixon; his siblings, Fred Lee Adams, Johnny Clay, Larry Daniels and Mary Saucier.
